Derek Ladenburger and his wife Raegan St. Denis, alongside Russell Mayhew and his wife Jaszmine Mayhew now co-own and operate Sedona Bee Company. Our families share the same life goals of running self-sustaining farms and beekeeping while raising children with true grit, compassion and integrity. Over the past year we have worked together, harnessing each of our strengths to finally bring our dream to fruition. Our company is here to save the bees, serve the community and support local agriculture.
In addition to being sweet and delicious, honey contains small amounts of iron, zinc and potassium. Local honey can help combat many seasonal allergies. Our honeybees are kept right here in the Verde Valley.
We, Derek and Raegan Ladenburger, and our 4 children moved from Kentucky to Arizona in 2022. Prior to our move we had a small homestead and raised a large garden as well chickens, ducks, turkeys, guinea fowl, hogs and bees! Raegan’s dad, Joe, had a love for raising bees and enjoyed showing Derek the ropes. From there, our interest and excitement of raising bees grew and our family made plans to continue beekeeping once settled in Arizona. Shortly after the move Joe unexpectedly passed. We now beekeep for many reasons: 1) Honey is delicious and nutritious 2) Save the bees, save the world…right?! 3) To teach our kids good, honest, hard work, and 4) To let the memory of Joe and his love for bees live on in our hearts and in our community.
After living in Utah for 15 years, where we (Russ and Jaszmine) started our family, the Mayhews relocated to Arizona, craving a smaller town and slower pace of life. Our goal was to live more simply and expand our garden and homestead. Back in Utah, we grew our own fruits and veggies, and raised chickens - anything for fresh, wholesome food. We hope to pass on this love for healthy eating and good old hard work to our kids, setting them on a path to a happy and healthy life. Allergies led us to start beekeeping for the great healing properties of that sweet honey and pollen. Our dream? Sharing these natural goodies with our local community.
